NAFTA
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) brings tremendous opportunity to Texarkana as a manufacturing and distribution center. The city is ideally located to move goods between the northeastern United States and Mexico. Texarkana is equally distant from Mexico City and Montreal and is connected to the trade routed between Mexico and Canada via Highways 49 and 59. These highways also put Texarkana in line with every major port on the Gulf of Mexico from New Orleans, Louisiana, to the Mexico border. With the completion of Interstates 49 and 69, it is estimated that within ten years, one hundred billion dollars worth of goods will pass through Texarkana each year.
