CORE COMPETENCIES
MIXING AND BUILDING OF CHEMICAL ENERGETIC MATERIALS

We have computer-controlled process systems for mixing, granulating, and drying of pyrotechnic and other explosive materials. All batch mixing and distribution is remotely controlled from a central control room. Our in-house engineers designed these systems, and many of the material-handling machines were built in our own machine shop.
POWDER IMPACTION / PRESSING
![]() |
Our specially designed presses have UV deluge protection within protective wall construction. These presses can be retooled to produce various sizes of pellets at high pressures. Our data collection workstation is used to monitor pressing operations with statistical process control (SPC). Through SPC, pressure is automatically monitored assuring quality products produced within specification limits. |
TECHNICAL AND PROCESS DEVELOPMENT EXPERTISE
![]() |
At Lone Star, we can take an idea and design the equipment and processes necessary to produce the product. Our experienced engineering and operations staff is accustomed to absolute adherence to technical data. We are also accustomed to working within the constraints of fixed schedules and budgets. |
LOGISTICS AND PACKAGING OF ENERGETIC MATERIALS
We are experienced in receiving, handling, storing, packaging, and transport of pyrotechnic and other explosive materials. Our Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system allows us to track inventory, orders, and shipping. Our traffic department is certified to receive and ship hazardous material by rail and van.
DEMILARIZATION
We have more than 50 years of experience in demilitarization. Our wide range of capabilities includes Open Burn/Open Detonation (OB/OD) and Resource Recovery and Recycling (R3). Lone Star has received "Excellence in Demilitarization" awards from OSC Headquarters.
BURNING GROUND (HIGH EXPLOSIVE)
The High Explosive Burning Ground (HEBG) covers approximately 80 acres and has a capacity of 14,500 pounds per day. The facility is designed to thermally dispose of explosive-contaminated waste, some bulk explosives, and reject components.
DEMOLITION GROUND (HIGH EXPLOSIVE)
![]() |
The High Explosive Demolition Ground consists of approximately 100 acres. The facility is equipped with a remote firing center, camera coverage, and instrumentation to evaluate suitability of weather conditions for firing and has a permitted capacity of 15,000 pounds per day of excess and rejected munitions and explosives. |
PACKAGING OF RECOVERED EXPLOSIVES
Explosives recovered when demilitarization operations are performed are segregated by lot, packaged, and labeled. Stability testing is performed in our on-site Chemical Laboratory utilizing a high-performance liquid chromatograph.
MACHINING
![]() |
Our machining cababilities are second to none. Whether it is CNC milling or sheet metal fabrication, we have the skills and tools available on-site. We have the state-of-the-art machinery combined with an experienced and skilled staff. Our equipment includes: |
